Augmented Reality
Layer digital content onto the real world with AR experiences that invite exploration and interaction. From WebAR and mobile apps to marker-based and spatial experiences, audiences can connect with your story in intuitive and memorable ways.
What Is Augmented Reality?
Augmented Reality (AR) uses a smartphone or tablet camera to overlay digital content (3D models, animations, information, games) onto the physical world around the user. Unlike VR, it requires no headset. A QR code, a printed marker, or simply opening an app is enough to launch an experience that blends the digital and physical seamlessly.
What Can It Do for You?
AR turns passive audiences into active participants. Want shoppers to visualise a product in their home before buying? Guide visitors through a space with interactive stories? Bring a brand activation to life at an event? AR makes all of that possible through a device everyone already has in their pocket. Studies show AR experiences are more engaging and more memorable than their non-AR equivalents, and that interacting with products via AR significantly increases conversion rates.
How We Work
At Cheese & Pixels, we build AR experiences end-to-end: concept, design, 3D modelling, development, and deployment. We work across WebAR, app-based AR, and mixed reality, choosing the right platform for the brief rather than defaulting to a single approach. Whether the goal is education, retail, events, or storytelling, we focus on experiences that feel intuitive, polished, and genuinely useful.

Our Projects

Turning Complex Data into a Showstopper
Visa needed to showcase their AI-powered fraud prevention tools at the Visa Payments Forum 2024 in Istanbul, with around 800 attendees and a stand featuring multiple distinct product areas. We had just over a month to deliver it from scratch.
We built a marker-based AR app that gave users a rapid, self-guided overview of each product area, no Visa rep required. Developed in close collaboration with global stakeholders, the experience translated highly technical security concepts into something intuitive and engaging, helping Visa generate leads and drive interest across their full product portfolio.
A Christmas Treasure Hunt for Harrods Shoppers
For Christmas 2019, Harrods wanted to extend their signature in-store magic with an AR experience for families. We created a Kingdom of Christmas AR trail, sending visitors hunting for hidden markers across the store's floors, each one triggering a bespoke animated character.
Six animals (3D scanned from the physical in-store displays and textured from reference photography) came to life with playful, character-driven animations. Once all six were found, users unlocked a final secret experience triggerable anywhere in the store. It turned Christmas shopping into an adventure.

A Piano Showroom That Fits in Your Pocket
When Yamaha Music Europe GmbH launched a new Clavinova range during the pandemic, in-store events weren't an option. We built a comprehensive AR app that let customers place, scale, and explore true-to-specification 3D models of each instrument in their own homes.
Beyond visualisation, the app included audio clips, colour variants, tutorial videos, and a dealer locator, making it a fully functional sales tool for dealerships as well as a consumer-facing product showcase. Users could also share photos of their AR piano in situ, extending the campaign's reach organically.
Changing Minds on the Deposit Return Scheme for Reloop
Reloop, a non-profit making the case for the deposit return scheme (DRS) in the UK, needed a compelling tool to shift attitudes at industry events. We built an interactive tablet experience centred on a detailed 3D street scene, taking users on a journey through the real-world impact of the UK's litter crisis.
Initially depicted in grim, litter-strewn colours, the scene transforms as users interact with hotspots revealing facts about the waste crisis and the proven impact of DRS in other countries. Each interaction shifts the environment toward something cleaner and more hopeful, making the message visceral rather than abstract.

A Virtual Trip to the Cayman Islands
The Cayman Islands Department of Tourism wanted to engage PR and media professionals with an immersive experience that captured the spirit of the islands. We created a markerless AR app featuring detailed 3D models of all three islands, accessible anywhere without a printed trigger.
Each island was dotted with hotspots surfacing videos, images, and local information, with ambient animations (sailing boats, swaying palms) adding a sense of life and atmosphere. The experience was designed to inspire coverage and generate interest ahead of a wider rollout for visitors and tourists.
Exploring Sculpture in a New Context
When the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts was forced to close during lockdown, they came to us for an AR app that would allow users to continue engaging with their collection. We used photogrammetry to accurately recreate six significant sculptures (works by Frink, Giacometti, Moore, Gormley and others).
Users could place each sculpture in any environment of their choosing, rotating and scaling it freely. The app also enabled photos to be saved or shared, turning gallery-goers into advocates. The result brought world-class art into living rooms, gardens, and streets across the country.

Uncovering Lowestoft's Hidden History
East Suffolk Council commissioned an AR app to help visitors to Ness Point (the most easterly point in the UK) discover the rich history of the area as part of a wider rejuvenation of the site. Five story experiences are triggered by interpretation boards positioned across the restored parkland.
Each experience draws on extensive historical research, combining animated content, historical photographs, voiceover narration, and filmed footage to explore themes including the fishing industry, the impact of conflict, and the relationship between the sea and the town. It layers centuries of storytelling onto a single stretch of coastline.
Getting Kids Moving with WebAR
Deloitte tasked us with creating a WebAR activation for the LTA's Tennisables campaign, designed to encourage children aged 5 to 8 to engage with tennis through fun, dance-based movement. The priority was simple: make it feel like play.
We designed a set of collectible physical cards, each featuring a Tennisables character and a unique QR code. Scanning the code launched a WebAR experience (built in Snap Lens Studio and Camera Kit) where the character demonstrated a tennis move for the child to copy. No app download, no technical barrier, just an instantly accessible experience that worked on any mobile.

A Day in the Life of a Roman Villa
Roman Villa: A Day in the Life is an educational AR experience grounded in real archaeological discoveries in Norfolk. Inspired by finds from an actual excavation site, it invites users to explore daily life through the eyes of the Aurelii family, placing and examining historically accurate 3D artifacts in their own space.
Curriculum-aligned across seven topics including food, clothing, religion, and health, the app supports both independent discovery and classroom use. Launched on iOS in 2026, it turns local history into something tangible and interactive, connecting pupils directly to the people who once lived in the landscape around them.
